Plymouth is best known for being the landing site of the Mayflower and the Pilgrims, founded in 1620. Oldest continually inhabited English settlement in the modern United States. Plymouth is known for its historical value and site seeing. Several prominent events, the most notable being the First Thanksgiving feast was held here
In 1620 the Mayflower first landed in Plymouth harbor. It is said the pilgrims set foot in America at the site of the Plymouth Rock. Plymouth Rock is the most visited attraction in Plymouth and sits on the on the waterfront, underneath a granite canopy.
Plymouth Plantation is an English Village re-creation of the pilgrim settlement in 1627 as well the 17th century Wampanoag home site. Many visitors come to Plymouth Plantation and view how the Pilgrims farmed and lived back in the 1600’s. When viewing the village there are Pilgrim roll playing, see how they dressed, worked, animals that were their but rare today.
The Mayflower II is a replica of the Mayflower, which brought the Pilgrims. The ship is open as a museum. There are daily tours of the Mayflower, you will learn about the Pilgrims’ historic voyage from Plymouth, England.
Pilgrim Hall Museum, founded in 1824, is the oldest public museum in the United States. It has artifact collections, artwork, and a library and archives. Other historical sites include the Jenney Grist Mill, a replica of a mill built in 1636, as well as the 1640 Richard Sparrow House, the oldest house still standing in Plymouth
Myles Standish State Forest, the Commonwealth’s second largest state forest, is located in Plymouth. It is a camping and hiking destination
Plymouth has 11 public and private golf courses.
From the harbor you will be able to fish from a chartered boat, catch ferries to Provincetown, and enjoy an unforgettable whale watching trip.
